At the meeting of the Lodge Management Committee on Tuesday, 15th July 1980 two projects were discussed:

The first was a Lodge Honours Board to commemorate in a tangible way the 54 Masters of the Lodge, to date, and also a Lodge Banner. The idea for the Honours Board had come from W.Bro.S.A.Taylor and W.Bro.C.H.Childs agreed to produce a design. Bro.R.A.Gregory had agreed to produce the Board and over a number of Committee meetings between 1981 and 1983 the project was discussed at its various stages of production. With the Board completed, Bro.T.Wells had agreed to do the lettering and staining of the board, whilst W.Bro.Childs painted a plaque of the Lodge Crest showing the Viaduct and River Mimram. The Board was erected at The Cloisters, Letchworth on Saturday 3rd September 1983 by Hodgson Bros. of Offley, under the direction of W.Bro.F.J.Brazier.It was agreed that following the purchase of gold letraset by W.Bro.A.T.Childs in London, W.Bro.C.H.Childs would undertake to update the names of new Masters each year from 1984 onwards.

5. Application of letraset names and dates (1984 to 2004 inclusive) by W.Bro.C.H.Childs*.

6. Material costs (Construction) £64, paid from Lodge funds.

7. Labour costs paid by W.Bro.S.A.Taylor.

8. Wood for board and oval panel by W.Bro. F.J.Brazier.

9. Gold lettering (Times Roman Caps) for names by letraset.

10. Gold lettering for dates (1984 to 2004) by “The Art Brigade”, from original artwork supplied by W.Bro.C.H.Childs.

11. Collected from “The Art Brigade” offices in Shaftesbury Avenue, London by W.Bro. A.T.Childs.

12. Board erected at The Cloisters, Letchworth, on Saturday 3rd September 1983 by Hodgson Bros, Offley.

The Honours Board

BACKGROUND NOTES

1. Lodge Management Meeting -   Tuesday 15th July 1980

Idea for a Past Masters' Honours Board was raised by Bro.S.A.Taylor.
W.Bro. C.H.Childs agreed to produce a design.
It was agreed by Committee that the board should be produced.

2. Lodge Management Meeting -   Monday 6th July 1981

Bro.S.A.Taylor reported that Bro.R.A.Gregory (who was to make the board) required information on dimensions available at the Cloisters.
W. Bro. C.H.Childs had produced the design.

3. Lodge Management Meeting -   Friday 18th December 1981

It was reported that work had been carried out in terms of size and location of the board at the Cloisters. (probably in the Lodge room).W.Bro.C.H.Childs agreed to see the Warden of the Cloisters with board positioning sketches.

4. Lodge Management Meeting -   Monday 6th December 1982

W. Bro. C.H.Childs reported that Bro. R.A.Gregory had now made the board, and that Bro.T.Wells was now working on the lettering. He had also redesigned the top of the board.

5. Lodge Management Meeting -   Monday 6th. July 1983

W.Bro.F.J.Brazier reported that the lettering still had to be completed. Final position of the board was still to be decided, but because of the finished size, it would probably be located outside of the Lodge Room.
An invoice for £64 for materials had been received. It was proposed by W.Bro.C.H.Childs and seconded by W.Bro.B.J.Barnes, that this cost should be met from Lodge funds. It was also suggested that in view of his work on the board, Bro.T.Wells be made an Honorary Member of the Lodge. He could be proposed at the October meeting, and balloted for in November.

6. Lodge Management Meeting -   Monday 5th December 1983

It was reported that Bro.T.Wells did not wish to become an Honorary Member.

The board was now in place at the Cloisters.
